Fru Dagmar Hastrup Plant Type: spreading shrub Foliage Type: deciduous Plant Height: 5 ft. 0 in. (1.52 meters) Plant Width/Spread: 5 ft. 0 in. (1.52 meters) Plant Height-Mature: 8 ft. 0 in. (2.44 meters) Plant Width-Mature: 8 ft. 0 in. (2.44 meters) Hardiness: USDA Zones 3 to 9 Flower Color: pink Sun/Light Exposure: full sun Water Requirements: drought tolerant Wildlife Associations: bees, butterflies This tough shrub rose has a great deal to offer and asks little in return. It originated as a seedling of Rosa rugosa, which is one of the hardiest of all roses. ‘Fru Dagmar Hastrup’ was discovered and named by Mr. Hastrup in Denmark in about 1914. Its color is notable – clear silver-pink – rather than the purplish red of most Rugosa roses. Very fragrant flowers are produced from May until frost, the earlier ones have ripened into rich, crimson tomato-shaped hips while the last flowers are still appearing. This coincides with the brilliant foliage – a mix of gold, russet and sage-green — making quite a show. Due to its colonizing habit is useful for stabilizing banks, and it’s very prickly stems make it a good barrier plant. It can be sheared into a low hedge. Its thick, dark green, deeply veined leaves are somewhat deer resistant. Bees and butterflies like the flowers, which can also be used in arrangements. The hips are enjoyed by wild birds and can be made into tea or jelly.Campfire Shrub Rose Zone: 3 to 7 Planting Season: Spring Soil Requirements: Fertile, well-drained Flowering Season: Summer Bloom Time: Summer Height: 36 Flowering: Yes Foliage Color: Green Flower Color: Yellow Spacing: 36 Deciduous: Yes Prune Time: Late fall and early spring Botanical Name: Shrub rose Disease Resistant: Yes Campfire has exceptional hardiness combined with eye-catching blooms and bright glossy foliage. Shapely buds with yellow and red tones open to semi-double flowers of yellow, edged in a deep rosy pink. As the season progresses, the pink edging becomes more prominent and produces an incredible smoldering blend of yellow and deep pink blooms that continue until frost. Dark green glossy foliage has excellent disease resistance and stems are smooth with only the occasional short thorns. Campfire’s luminescent blooms on a compact shrub will light up a landscape. Easy-to-care for exceptionally hardy and extremely eye-catching. Compact 3-foot shrubs bloom continuously from summer until frost creating a multi-colored, smoldering effect in the landscape. Plant in full sun.Ruby Voodoo Rose Rose Classification:  Shrub Roses-Cold Hardy Rose Colors: Magenta Colored Roses USDA Hardiness Zone: 4, 5, 6, 7 Water Needs: Moderate Light Needs: Full Sun Mature Height: 5-6 ft. Mature Width : 4-5 ft. Mature Size (generic) : SHRUB (4-6′) This rose is sure to cast a spell on you. You see, Ruby Voodoo (Rosa ‘Ruby Voodoo’) has a secret. Not only is it an enticing color that will draw you in from across the garden, but once you start to get close the intoxicating scent will make your heart skip a beat. Ruby Voodoo has a difficult-to-capture-in-a-picture color, it is a wonderful purple/pink/magenta shade that gets richer the longer you look at it. It is shaped like an old English rose but has the modern health and vigor of a landscape shrub. As striking as the color is, though, it is the powerful fragrance that makes Ruby Voodoo memorable and the star of your garden. The scent is an extremely rich, sweet traditional rose fragrance, the type that perfumers and candle makers try desperately to capture in a bottle or in wax but are never quite able to do. You just need to pick a small bouquet of the roses from your garden and bring them in to your table to perfume your entire room! Ruby Voodoo doesn’t just have big color and big scent. It has a big form. Growing 4-6 feet tall and wide, it commands attention in a sunny spot in your garden. After a big flush of blooms in early summer, it will treat you with sporadic blushes all summer long and into the fall. This shrub rose grows best in zone 4-9 Ruby Voodoo looks great with soft grasses and evergreens. Try it as a backdrop for perennial daylilies or classic lavender.

Remove any dead or damaged branches. This AARS award winner was chosen by chef Julia Child herself for its rich, butter gold color and delicious licorice scent. It performs excellently in all climates, is very disease-resistant and continues to bloom until stopped by cold weather. Roses open in lavish abundance on an attractive dark-green shrub a modest 3′ tall and wide, with a full and rounded form. Of course, ‘Julia Child’ looks great as cut flowers on a table, especially a dinner table. Standing atop long stems up to 26 inches high, this cultivar produces its blooms from pleasantly pointed ovoid buds clustered throughout the branches. The compact shrubs measure only 3 feet in height and width, making them versatile enough for most garden recipes. Requiring minimal care, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. Pruning is recommended in the spring. Remove old and dead wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, remaining canes should be cut by one-third. In colder climates, additional pruning is usually helpful.
