Growth Rate Slow | Aurora Delphinium
The AURORA series of Delphinium offers excellent uniformity and hybrid vigor with flowers tightly packed on sturdy stems. They form stately spires of flowers in early summer, over a mound of deeply cut green leaves. This selection features tall spires of vivid blue, semi-double flowers each with a white bee or center. Excellent for cutting. Trim back spent stems to the base to encourage repeat bloom later in the autumn. Be on the watch for aphids, slugs and powdery mildew, all common problems with Delphiniums. Staking the individual flower stems in June as they begin to elongate is wise, to help avoid wind damage.

USDA Zone: 3-9 | Delphinium Blue Butterfly
Traditional, herbaceous, short-lived perennial. Grown for their showy, single blooms, which are an attractive addition to mixed borders. Palmate, deeply cut or divided mid-green leaves. The stems terminate in flower spikes. Smaller less impressive flower spikes grow from the leaf axils lower down the main stem. Cup-shaped, bright blue flowers, sometimes with a feathery eye in the center and a stubby spur at the back of the flower. Flowering period is early summer with possibly a second flush in autumn. Flowers last well when cut and can be used for flower arrangements. Caution is advised when handling as all parts of Delphinium may cause discomfort if ingested and foliage may irritate sensitive skin. Caution. Harmful if eaten.

Hybrid Coneflower
USDA Zone: 5-9
A new series of Coneflower bred to produce well-branched, sturdy and compact plants featuring a high bud count. This selection produces very large, single flowers with overlapping orange petals surrounding a large, rust-brown cone. Ideal for sunny borders and growing in mixed containers. Attractive to butterflies. Excellent for cutting. Coneflowers begin blooming midsummer and continue for months if faded flowers are regularly removed. However, keeping some dried flower heads on the plants in fall will provide food for wintering song birds. Dried seed heads also add interest to the winter garden. Purple Coneflower
USDA Zone: 3-9
A distinctive selection from PanAm Seed Co. of the Purple Coneflower, one of our most popular native wildflowers. Plants form a midsized mound of coarse dark-green leaves, bearing large daisy flowers with magenta-pink petals surrounding an orange-brown central cone by midsummer. Beautiful companion to E. purpurea ‘Pow Wow White’. Coneflowers are sturdy and easy-care perennials that perform best in a sunny location. Flowers are very attractive to butterflies. Outstanding for cutting. Removing faded flowers regularly will greatly increase the blooming period. Leaving dried seed heads on the plants at the end of the season will provide food for wintering birds and add interest to the winter garden. They’re also useful in dried arrangements. Plants may be easily divided in early spring. Any seedlings that appear can also be moved at that time. An All-America Selections Winner for 2010.
