Double type; very large; early. White, with prominent crimson flakes on a few central petals; fairly fragrant. Tall; very floriferous; stems usually strong. Foliage large, dark green. Excellent for both garden decoration and cutting. The flowers are globular, with wide petals of heavy substance, loosely arranged, and last well when cut. An old, thoroughly tested variety whose merit is proved by its very great popularity. “Does not last well when cut. Chicago market says it is a poor cut-flower.”— Brand. “Splashed, streaked, and edged with crimson. Usually flatfish rather than globular.”—Saunders. “Stems good but not rigid by any means—rather spreading.”—Little.

Paeonia Miss America, what a beauty! The buds of this peony variety start out blush-coloured, but turn completely white when they bloom into thick flowers. This lovely combination of colours and its open centre make the dreamy Miss America an ideal peony for summer bouquets. In 2017 we planted her in Spain and France to because we love her so much. We can't wait for her to come in production in this sunny habitat.

LORE In 2012, the Hoard Historical Museum of Fort Atkinson in Jefferson County, Wisconsin dedicated the Roger F. and Sandra L. Anderson Peony Garden in honor of Roger's extensive work in peony hybridization. The garden contains a sizable number of Roger's peony cultivars (along with other plants donated by the Andersons) and purportedly holds the honor of featuring North America's largest public intersectional peony collection, as of 2012. Perhaps one of Roger's most recognized cultivars is 'Bartzella', with a remarkable and essentially perfect yellow bloom with a classic spicy fragrance.
