USDA Zone: 4-9
A native North American wildflower, this is the primary source of food for the both the adult and juvenile Monarch Butterfly and is often included in butterfly gardens. Plants form an upright clump of narrow green leaves, bearing showy clusters of orange or gold flowers in mid to late summer. The seed pods that follow are used in dried arrangements and should be picked and dried while still green. Very late to come up in the spring, so mark the spot by planting daffodils or other companion bulbs. Needs well-drained sandy soil.
CAUTION: Harmful if eaten.

Growth Rate Slow | Campanula carpatica Rapido ‘Blue’
Carpathian Bellflower
USDA Zone: 3-9
This bellflower is considered an improvement on the older ‘Clips’ series displaying excellent vigour and blooming up to 4 weeks earlier. Plants form a low, cushion-shaped mound of small green leaves, with loads of upfacing, open blue bells appearing in late spring through late summer. Will continue blooming for weeks if spent blossoms are regularly removed. Excellent choice for the rock garden, edging and in containers. Performs especially well in regions with cool nights during the summer. Plants should be divided every 2 to 4 years, in spring or fall. Prefers good drainage.

Growth Rate Medium | Delphinium Blue Butterfly
Traditional, herbaceous, short-lived perennial. Grown for their showy, single blooms, which are an attractive addition to mixed borders. Palmate, deeply cut or divided mid-green leaves. The stems terminate in flower spikes. Smaller less impressive flower spikes grow from the leaf axils lower down the main stem. Cup-shaped, bright blue flowers, sometimes with a feathery eye in the center and a stubby spur at the back of the flower. Flowering period is early summer with possibly a second flush in autumn. Flowers last well when cut and can be used for flower arrangements. Caution is advised when handling as all parts of Delphinium may cause discomfort if ingested and foliage may irritate sensitive skin. Caution. Harmful if eaten.

Shasta Daisy
USDA Zone: 4-9
(Formerly Chrysanthemum maximum) No sunny border would seem complete without the familiar presence of Shasta Daisies. This is an especially compact selection, with masses of single white flowers, each with a yellow center. Excellent for cutting. Also great for edging, or in mixed containers. Removing faded flowers will greatly increase the blooming time. Divide plants in the spring every 2 to 3 years to maintain vigour. Shasta Daisy is a well-behaved garden hybrid and should not be confused with the weedy Ox-eye Daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare).

Japanese Astilbe
USDA Zone: 3-9
Astilbe are a popular choice for shady gardens, where they perform well if given a rich, moist soil and regular watering. This midsized selection has full plumes of deep cherry red, over a bushy mound of elegant, lacy green leaves. Also thrives in tubs or mixed containers. Fertilize in April and June. Excellent for cutting. Seed heads may be removed or left on the plant for winter interest. Plants should be divided every 2 to 3 years, in early spring. May tolerate full sun in cool summer regions.
