| Gaillardia aristata ‘Arizona Sun’
Blanket Flower
USDA Zone: 2-9
Blanket Flowers are valuable for their very long season of bloom. This selection blooms profusely even in the first year, forming a low, compact mound. Flowers are large flame-orange daisies with golden-yellow tips, appearing from June into the autumn. Thrives in hot, sunny sites. Attractive to butterflies. Drought tolerant once established. Not the best choice for heavy clay soil that will stay wet through the winter. Removing faded flowers will encourage constant blooming. An All America Selections and Fleuroselect Gold Medal winner.

Perennial Sage
USDA Zone: 3-9
The Perennial Sages are invaluable perennials for their rich display of spiky flowers in the early summer border. This selection is medium to tall, with flowers of deep violet-blue held on unusually dark stems. Remove faded blooms to encourage repeat flowering. Excellent for cutting. Drought tolerant once established. Also tolerates heat and humidity. Plants may be easily divided in early spring or fall. Can be clipped back hard after blooming, to rejuvenate the foliage. Attractive to both butterflies and hummingbirds. Winner of the 2000 Outstanding New Perennial Award by the International Hardy Plant Union.

Growth Rate Medium | Aurora Delphinium
The AURORA series of Delphinium offers excellent uniformity and hybrid vigor with flowers tightly packed on sturdy stems. They form stately spires of flowers in early summer, over a mound of deeply cut green leaves. This selection features tall spires of vivid blue, semi-double flowers each with a white bee or center. Excellent for cutting. Trim back spent stems to the base to encourage repeat bloom later in the autumn. Be on the watch for aphids, slugs and powdery mildew, all common problems with Delphiniums. Staking the individual flower stems in June as they begin to elongate is wise, to help avoid wind damage.

'Twinkle Toes' Lungwort
This beautiful shade perennial will make you dance with its impressive spring flowers and unique foliage. Starting in mid-spring shortly after Hellebores are finished booming, dainty light periwinkle blue flowers cover a low, mounded habit. After the flowers fade, you can enjoy its dark green leaves that are lightly sprinkled with silver. This plant will thrive in part shade to full shade as long as you provide moisture. Pulmonaria is an underused perennial that grows well in shady gardens. It is especially attractive when planted among hostas, ferns, and brunneras. Its flowers are among the most brilliantly colored blossoms of all perennials.
